Day 10: Sweet sweet boy!

Today was day ten of the mandatory ten day bonding period.  And it was a good day.  We were afraid that we would be inside again since it was still chilly and it has rained the last few days.  But we were surprised to find them outside when we arrived at the orphanage!

It was an absolutely beautiful morning.  When we walked up to his group Asa ran to greet us and hugged us both.  He took both of our hands and we played and played.  When one of us would walk away, he would yell, "Mama" or "Dada" to get our attention and tell us, "Come here!"  At one point he put his toys down and walked to me and held his arms up for me to pick him up!  He is very heavy, so I am sure the nannies do not carry him much, and this was the first time he has initiated one of us picking him up.  It was so sweet.

At one point I walked into the building to go to the restroom and when I came out another boy started screaming at me.  Asa turned to him and told him, "Do not scream at MY Mama."  And then pointed to Daddy and told the boy, "And that is MY Dada."  He has claimed us. No doubt about it.

He asked for an apple and for yogurt, both in English.  It was just a really great day with him.  And it makes me even sadder that tomorrow is our last day with him before we leave.  I know that it will be hard to walk away.  I so wish that we had court dates so that I could tell myself when I will see him again.  Hopefully soon we will have those dates.  Hopefully soon.

Tomorrow we will see Asa in the morning and spend the afternoon doing paperwork to submit to court.  We will also do laundry and pack for the trip home.  We will leave for the airport at 2 am Tuesday morning for our 5 am flight home.  Please be praying that we can get all of our paperwork in order tomorrow afternoon.  Any delays or glitches could delay things by weeks since everything we need to submit has to be notarized.  We need the notary to be available tomorrow afternoon as that is our last time here and the only chance we have to get those papers done here.  Doing them at home would take two weeks at a minimum because of the process to get notarized documents authenticated and stamped at the Embassy.  Papers notarized here do not have to go through that process b/c the notary is here.

love and blessings to each of you,
mike&karla&Asa-Vladik
