Once Asa has his Spica cast on, transporting him will be interesting. He will not be able to move or bend or contort himself into his normal car seat. In my research I have found that we have two choices in how he'll ride in our van.
The first is a harness that will attach him to the seatbelt in the back seat of the van. Why the back seat? Well, with this harness he will have to be laying down across the bench seat. And yes, he would take up the whole third row seat. This would leave no room for the other two children who have to ride back there. And I have no idea how I will get him back there! He will weigh about 60 lbs with the cast on.
The second option is this car seat. The Britax Hippo. It is a car seat that Britax produces just for kids in spica casts. And it is on sale this week..for only $450! Wow! What a steal! And we would have to steal it because we cannot afford that.
I was again reaching that point of hopelessness about how we are going to deal with this 12 weeks in the cast thing when a friend responds to a thread of facebook. They have a Britax Hippo car seat. They are not using it anymore. And they want us to have it! I was in tears. Really.
What a blessing!

That is an amazing blessing to your family :)
