Today I got my courage up and tackled putting two down for a nap at one time.
Ever since we returned from our trip, we have either skipped naptime all together because of appointments or other life craziness, or when I have tried, it has taken me an hour to get Ezra to stay in his bed, much less fall asleep. I have been intentional with him the last several days to re-institute naptime and today was finally a good day. It only took 10 minutes and one re-do before he was quiet and staying in bed.
Great, now to teach Asa about nap time. I was sitting with him in the living room and said, "Hey, let's take a nap! Okay?!" And he happily nods his head "Yes" thinking "nap" must be another word for snack or food. He kept smiling as I carried him towards the kitchen, and his little smile faded as we walked right past the kitchen and into our bedroom. By the time I got to his bed he was crying. And when I laid him down he was wailing. Oh, sweet boy, you will take a nap. Doing so will preserve Mommy's sanity and your well being, I promise.
I sat on a stool beside his bed while he cried. And he cried. And he cried. My phone rang. I went into the bathroom to talk to a friend. And Asa continued to cry. And cry. For 20 minutes he cried. When I would stop talking, he would stop crying long enough to make sure I was still there and then he would start crying again. He finally figured out that I was seriously not going to let him get up and he rolled over and went to sleep.
He slept for 2.5 hours. I had to wake him up for supper. I think naptime was needed. And yes, sweet boy, we will be taking a nap most days from this point forward. Crying or not.
The nap today was most necessary because of our evening plans. The public pools here have family swim night. Tuesdays from 7-9 pm families can swim! We like it as it is cooler and you don't have to lather the kids up with sun screen. And there are not any unsupervised kids since it is family night, kids must have a parent with them to swim. We swam and had fun for about an hour and then the kids wanted ICE CREAM! Oh they are a demanding hoard ;)
We headed over to Orange Leaf Frozen Yogurt and got treats. I bought one tub of chocolate for Asa and Ezra to share and they did a great job of sharing! They really have become best buds and they are so much fun to watch together. I know I will enjoy watching them grow up together and am so thankful that God's plan for our family means that we have BOTH of these beautiful boys to call son!
I absolutely love this picture! This shows what you guys have worked for 4 years to achieve - family, sharing and love. How wonderful it will be for these two boys to get to grow up together!
