A trip to the dentist

Asa had his first dental appointment this morning.  We were fully anticipating that all of the decay we could visibly see would mean a dental restoration under full sedation.  Surgery.

First they did the xrays. We were so proud of him.  You could tell he was nervous, but he did everything the technician asked him to do and no tears at all!  As each image came up on the computer screen, I was amazed to see solid white!  No decay that my very uneducated eyes could see.

Next was the cleaning.  Oh, that was tough.  He had 4 years worth of stuff built up on his little teeth.  We were told that the kids brushed their teeth in the orphanage, but we never saw any tooth paste, only rows and rows of unmarked toothbrushes.  And likely, IF they did brush, no adult ever checked to see how well the job was done.

Once the cleaning was done, the dentist did his exam.  Asa did great again.  Opening his little mouth wide and holding back the tears.  And the dentist explained that he could see NO decay, just two tiny little spots he would "watch".  You can also see his six year molars under the surface and they looked healthy and on target to come through in the next year to year and a half.

Yeah!  No further work needed, no surgery and no cavities!  Another miracle!
