Judah and a kindergarten update.
So far, so good! Every single day Judah has received a Super Ranger stamp in his folder! This means that he has had Super Ranger behavior all day long!
I had heard that his teacher was very strict and very old fashioned. She has been teaching over 30 years. I didn't figure that she just handed out Super Ranger stamps if a kid didn't truly deserve one. I also heard from another parent that while she is strict, she also keeps the students so engaged and so structured, that things are set up for students to succeed! What a great place for Judah to spend his days and to start his school career.
He is not so much into doing homework. It is like pulling teeth. But I have noticed that his coloring is more in the lines now than it used to be and his handwriting is getting better. He told me this morning though, "Mom, I like coloring outside the lines!" Yes son, I know you do. Believe me, I know that about you!
He has certainly gained a ton of confidence and is making friends. Yesterday his friend Caden ran up to him and they gave each other a big hug and yelled, "Bye! I'll see you tomorrow!" And he is always very intentional to tell his friend Jiselle goodbye. He is such a sweet sweet boy!
The theme in kindergarten this week has been careers. One day the kids had to take something that represented what their mom or dad does as their job. Judah took Mike's stethoscope. I figured I better make sure Judah knew what Mike actually does at his job, so I asked him,
"Judah, what does Daddy do at work?"
"I don't know!"
I said, "He's a nurse. He helps people..."
"Like when they choke!?!"
Mike also teaches CPR and First Aide classes and he spent last Saturday reviewing his CPR videos. Judah has always been fascinated with the parts about the Heimlich Manuever and he will often go over to Ezra and say, "Hey Ezra, pretend you are choking and I will help you!"
Thankfully Ezra does not enjoy that game, screams and runs away.
Today the kids were to dress up in the uniform or clothes for the career or job they would like to have when they grow up. Judah is our airplane guy. Loves airplanes of any kind. And can tell you the model and type of almost any plane he sees. He is especially good at identifying World War II aircraft. His favorite shows to watch on Netflix are anything about WWII aircraft and combat. His favorite movie, by far, is the old movie Torah Torah Torah. He would watch that movie over and over and over if we let him.
Of course, for career dress up day Judah chose to go as an airplane pilot. I had been thinking about it all week. We had a long sleeve white button up shirt that someone had given us as a hand me down. It was already stained, so I could send him to school in it without fear of ruining a "good" shirt. He borrowed one of Daddy's ties and I was able to forge a decent knot in the top. We used mailing labels to make the shoulder decorations and name badge. He looked super cute!
I was afraid the tie would end up taken off and lost, or he would strangle himself with it on the playground, but I was pleased to see him still wearing it after school. And his white shirt was still very white. That was an accomplishment for a kindergartner!
